Israel Angel Vol. 1 – Chapter 3 – Baptism

I have to admit my motives were mixed when I left my stepfather’s Buckhead church to found Fruits of Life COGIC. Of course my stepfather’s motives aren’t pure, either. I don’t know how much my mother knows, how much she denies, or how much she ignores, but my stepdad is a handsome man. A Lady’s Man, I think they used to call it. All I know is those Church Ladies flock to him like bees to honey and he never turns down a chance to taste the nectar of any flower that opens up for him.

What can I say? Ever since Adam ate that apple, men have been born with desires. Strong undeniable desires. If my desires turn in a different direction, well God created me, too. Israel is such a fine young man, in every way. A heavenly creation if there ever was one, and pure and innocent. He’ll lose that eventually. That’s why it’s important to make the most of it now. He’s exactly the kind of boy I founded this church to reach out to. A nice young man in a bad part of town, that could so easily be corrupted if we hadn’t brought him into the folds of the church where he can be protected and raised right.

Yesterday was his baptism. I know Deacon Johnsyn likes to think of Israel as his own personal project and I wont fight him over it. There are enough boys to go around, but Baptism is one ritual that only a pastor can conduct. The Lord has placed the holy power of salvation in my hands, my gift to bestow on his behalf. That is a gift that comes with privileges and I took full advantage of them.

In some congregations the penitent is baptized in a white robe, but ours are performed fully nude, in the raiment God provided. When we returned to my office, I asked Israel to take off the towel he had modestly tied around his waist. He is still so wonderfully shy, but he obeyed. He learns fast who his master and shepherd is. Every single time I look at him, my breath catches in my throat. Praise the Lord! Every. single. time.
