Dominic Young Vol. 1 – Chapter 1 – Altar Call

Dominic Young transferred by letter from Pastor Cali’s home church where his parents were long time members. Mrs. Young wanted to support the new congregation and thought her stepson, from a respectable upper middle class stepfamily, could be a good influence on young men from the rougher neighborhoods around the church. Given Dominic’s small stature and shy nature, I fear the opposite is more likely, but I intend to keep a close watch on him and keep him safe, and on the right path.

With Mrs. Young having her mind made up that the Lord was calling her stepson to this ministry, there was not much way for me to say, “No,” but the truth is, I was thrilled. Of course, that is not quite how we do things here at Fruits of Life. All of the young men who join our congregation must have an Altar Call. Whatever church they may have been a member of in the past it’s not very likely they were welcomed into the congregation the way we do it. In any case, our deacons are not likely to pass up the chance to properly welcome any young man who seeks a place in our brotherhood.

I told Pastor Cali that, given my closeness to Dominic, and his stepfamily, it was only right that I conduct his altar call.
